Wedge Series at the Hangar Theatre Summer 2013
ARTICHOKE HEARTS: A FABULOUS DESTINY
Conceived, Adapted & Directed by Lian Walden
In this world premiere based on the iconic French film Le Fabuleux Destin D’Amelie Poulain by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, a playful ensemble bring the whimsical world of Amelie to life under a big red tent outside of the Hangar lobby. Local musicians will play a life original score as Amelie plots fanciful interventions into her neighbors’ lives while gathering the courage to break out of her own shell. Connect with a stranger and experience enchantment; leave with an increased sense of curiosity about the hidden gems beneath life’s mundane surfaces. Come early to enjoy live music and play before the show.
HIDING LIKE ELEPHANTS
(“CACHER COMME DES ELEPHANTS”)
Adapted & Directed by Will Detlefsen
This world premiere adaption of the 1960 Jean-Luc Godard film A Bout de Souffle is a provocative love story between Michel Poiccard, a young and sexy criminal wanted for murdering a cop, and Patricia Franchini, a beautiful American woman who wants to be a journalist. Set in the streets of Paris, Godard’s first film is largely considered to be one of the seminal films of the French New Wave. For the first time, this classic film will be adapted for the stage in a sexy, smoky, and cinematic production.
THE SAME PROGENY OF EVILS
Adapted & Directed by Louisa Proske
Heat waves, superstorms, floods, and oil spills are closing in on the faries and humans of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Two corrupt politicians are on a bender toward self-realization, four young runaways spiral into the abyss of their own desires, and the forest looks at us with large, hopeful, and bloodshot eyes. In this brave theatrical experiment Shakespeare’s language collides with found text and original choreography.
